Sustainable Scotland Green Series 2025

At The Scotsman’s Green Energy Conference, Highland CIC Chair Yvonne Crook delivered a compelling message following four years of dedicated community consultation and comprehensive mapping exercises. The presentation covered analysis of the region’s current and planned green energy development, third sector, cultural heritage sites, environment, areas of deprivation, tourism issues and opportunities.

The key takeaway? There is an urgent need to rethink how we allocate resources, including community benefit funds, to ensure lasting benefits for the Highlands. It aligns directly with Highland CIC’s vision to position the Highlands as a world leader in sustainable development, benefiting our communities and businesses, safeguarding our environment, and protecting our rich cultural heritage.

Yesterday’s conference was a key moment to highlight the work our innovative partnership has been doing for four years together, and we look forward to the positive impact we can make for sustainable development across the region as we continue to work in strategic collaboration.

Our partners and sponsors have enabled this collaborative approach, and we’d like to thank each of them for their time, expertise, and investment.

With the region poised for significant economic investment – estimated at around £100 billion by HIE – there’s a unique opportunity to shape a sustainable future. Highland CIC calls on all stakeholders to come together, collaborate, and be part of the solution. Together, we can build a resilient, inclusive, and environmentally responsible Highlands that thrives for generations to come.
