Fred. Olsen Renewables invests in CIC to drive sustainable vision for the Highlands

Leading independent renewable energy generator, Fred. Olsen Renewables has joined Highland Tourism Community Interest Company (HTCIC) as a sponsor of the CIC’s Highland Renewables activity. In the Highlands, Fred. Olsen Renewables has a number of projects in the pipeline including Balnespick Wind Farm, located east of Tomatin and north-west of Carrbridge. Their investment will support the organisation in its vision for the Highlands to become a world-leader in sustainability, reinvigorating local communities and the Highland economy.

Yvonne Crook, Chair, Highland Tourism CIC and Highland Renewables, said: “I am delighted that the team at Fred. Olsen Renewables has joined the inspirational cohort of partners we now have supporting the CIC.

“Fred. Olsen Renewables is an organisation that prioritises and invests in the environment and people in the places it operates. We look forward to working with the team on further developing the plan for the strategic and innovative use of community benefit funds and ultimately, ensuring the Highlands becomes world renowned as a sustainable destination for visitors and where the people who live and work here thrive.”

Kelly Wyness, Senior Project Manager at Fred. Olsen Renewables, said: “I was born and raised in Inverness and am personally invested in the work that is being undertaken by Highland Tourism Community Interest Company. It is fantastic that we can come on board as a sponsor of Highland Renewables activity, working collaboratively to support the Highlands in becoming a sustainable destination for visitors and residents alike.

“We are proud of the role that Fred. Olsen Renewables plays in Scotland – contributing towards the country’s climate change targets and energy security, but also to the local economies and communities. This new partnership will help to support this activity and make sure that our developments continue to have a positive impact locally.”

Over the coming year, the private sector will have invested £1m of resources in establishing Highland Tourism CIC as an organisation embedded in the community with a bold and confident Highland brand, and a strategy based on collaboration that will leave a much greater legacy for future generations.
